Recovery Residence 101

April 28th
10 A.M. - 2 P.M. 

Presenters: WAQRR Board Member Alan Muia, WAQRR Executive Director Jason Bliss, and WAQRR Accreditation Coordinator Briana Yocum.

We'll introduce operators and other stakeholders to our work creating a statewide registry of reviewed and accredited residences based on NARR's Quality Standards. We'll also discuss state licensing as it applies to those offering higher levels of care. Other topics will include fair housing, NIMBYism, and MOUD. This will be an excellent time to network with other providers and share best practices. If you were not able to make it to our previous Recovery Residence 101  that we held in February, this is a great chance to come!

Motivational Interviewing:
Skills for Effective Communication in Recovery Residences

Presenter: Garrett Kostin, LICSW, SUDPT
Defined as "a collaborative conversation style for strengthening a person's own internal motivation and commitment to healthy change," Motivational Interviewing (MI) is a powerfully effective method for supporting those in early and sustained recovery. This presentation will provide an introduction to MI, the crucial 'spirit' of the technique, the communication methods involved, and the four core 'interviewing' skills. Recovery residence operators and staff will be able to take away a basic set of effective communication skills that encourage those in recovery to feel understood, supported, and motivated to sustain positive change.



De-escalation Training

Presenter: Deanna Petrilli, LMHC, SUDPT

The de-escalation training help can help individuals:
1) Become familiar with principles and skills to recognize, reduce and manage anxious, aggressive, and potentially violent behavior. 2) Provide effective and compassionate methods of dealing with anxious or aggressive people. 3)Reduce fear in stressful circumstances by increasing the ability to successfully react. Topics such as eye contact, body posture, and reactionary distance will be covered as

WAQRR Accreditation Team Training

The Washington Alliance of Quality Recovery Residences (WAQRR) is pleased to announce that we’ll be hosting a training on May 27th. If you'd like to serve the recovery housing profession by becoming a document reviewer or residence inspector, come learn how.  This session will provide an in-depth survey of the latest quality standards of the National Alliance for Recovery Residences and the WA state Fidelity Review Standards as they apply to recovery residences. This session will review the components of the three-tier WAQRR accreditation process: document review, interview, and in-person site visits. This training will be beneficial for individuals who are interested in being a part of our accreditation team or individuals who want to learn more about the process.
