This course will cover the topics of the current brain science related to substance use disorders. We will examine different ways that we believe addiction may start and discuss the evidence that supports these ideas. There will be specific focus on opioids such as fentanyl as well as methamphetamine due to the prevalence of the use of these substances. Lastly, we will look at ways harm reduction can support efforts for change related to substance use disorder.
Learning Objectives:
Discuss current understanding of brain science related to substance use disorder(SUD).
Review specific information related to opioids as well as stimulants.
Examine ways harm reduction can support change with SUD
